Dysport vs. Daxxify: Fastest Onset vs. Longest Duration (2026 Guide)
Mechanism, onset, duration, dosing, and cost — an honest, clinically-grounded comparison of Dysport and Daxxify from Naya Wellness’s medical team.
If you have been researching neuromodulators, Dysport and Daxxify tend to sit at opposite ends of the kinetic spectrum. Dysport is widely regarded as one of the fastest-acting toxins on the cosmetic market — most patients see softening within two to three days. Daxxify is the first cosmetic neurotoxin engineered to last meaningfully longer than the three-to-four-month standard, with median duration in the published trials of approximately six months.
That contrast — speed of onset versus length of effect — is the entire reason this comparison matters. The two products do the same thing biochemically, but they optimize for opposite parts of the patient experience. This guide walks through every meaningful difference based on the current FDA labels, the SAKURA trials behind Daxxify, the head-to-head clinical literature on Dysport, and what we see day-to-day at our Chatsworth and Santa Barbara clinics. By the end, you will know which one fits your priorities — and what each one actually costs.
Quick Take
Pick Dysport if you want results as quickly as possible (typically 2–3 days) and you are comfortable with the standard 3–4 month re-treatment cadence. Pick Daxxify if you would rather invest more per treatment and stretch the interval out to roughly six months — for many patients, that means two visits a year instead of three or four. Daxxify takes a beat longer to kick in (often 1–4 days), but its real selling point is on the back end of the treatment, not the front. Cost-per-month tends to land in a similar neighborhood for both, but cost-per-visit is meaningfully higher for Daxxify.
What Dysport and Daxxify Actually Are
Both are purified type A botulinum toxins. Both work by temporarily blocking acetylcholine release at the neuromuscular junction, which relaxes targeted facial muscles and softens the dynamic wrinkle above them. The clinical endpoint is the same; the chemistry and engineering around the active molecule are very different.
- Dysport (abobotulinumtoxinA) — manufactured by Galderma, FDA-approved cosmetically for glabellar lines in April 2009. Dysport is a complex of roughly 500–900 kDa with a higher proportion of free 150 kDa active toxin, which contributes to its slightly broader diffusion profile.
- Daxxify (daxibotulinumtoxinA-lanm) — manufactured by Revance Therapeutics, FDA-approved for glabellar lines in September 2022. Daxxify is the bare 150 kDa toxin paired with a proprietary stabilizing peptide called RTP-004. That peptide is the engineering choice that drives Daxxify’s signature long duration; it also means Daxxify is formulated without human serum albumin.
The short version: Dysport is a mature, broadly diffusing formulation that prioritizes speed and large-area pricing. Daxxify is a newer, precisely diffusing formulation whose entire reason for existing is durability.
Onset: When Will You See Results?
This is where the two products diverge most visibly for patients.
- Dysport onset: Most patients see softening at 2–3 days, with peak effect around 10–14 days. In multiple head-to-head studies, Dysport has been one of the quickest cosmetic toxins to show visible movement reduction.
- Daxxify onset: SAKURA trial data reported median onset of approximately 1–4 days, with full peak effect around 14 days. Daxxify can move fast, but the distribution is wider — a meaningful subset of patients take the full four days to see clear change.
For a wedding, a televised event, or a high-stakes meeting eight days out, Dysport is the more predictable bet for early visible change. For routine maintenance where you are not racing a calendar, the onset gap is mostly academic.
Duration: How Long Will Results Last?
This is Daxxify’s category.
- Dysport: Typical glabellar duration is 3–4 months. The FDA label notes effects “may last up to 4 months” and re-treatment no more often than every 3 months.
- Daxxify: The SAKURA 1 and 2 phase-3 trials reported median duration of approximately 6 months at full effect, with a subset of patients still showing meaningful response at 9 months. The FDA label reflects the 6-month figure.
What this looks like in real life: a Dysport patient typically returns 3–4 times per year. A Daxxify patient often returns twice. For some people, particularly those who travel for work or who simply dislike the “wearing off” phase, that scheduling difference is the whole reason they switch. For others, the 3–4 month rhythm is familiar and not worth changing.
One honest caveat: real-world durations rarely match trial means exactly. Your metabolism, dose adequacy, treatment area, and injection technique all matter. Patients new to neuromodulators sometimes see slightly shorter duration on their first treatment of either product, with duration lengthening as the muscle conditions over subsequent cycles.
Dosing and Unit Conversion
The units between these two products are not interchangeable, and neither one converts neatly to Botox at 1:1.
Per the FDA labels:
- Dysport for glabellar lines: 50 units total, divided across 5 injection sites (10 units each). Roughly 2.5–3 units of Dysport equal 1 unit of Botox.
- Daxxify for glabellar lines: 40 units total, divided across 5 injection sites (8 units each). Roughly 2 units of Daxxify equal 1 unit of Botox.
That makes the Daxxify-to-Dysport ratio approximately 1 unit Daxxify ≈ 1.25 units Dysport, but in clinical practice your injector will never do this conversion on the fly. Each product is dosed against its own label using its own unit system. The takeaway is simply that comparing per-unit price between Dysport and Daxxify is misleading — you have to compare per-treatment cost.
Diffusion and Precision
This is an important practical difference, especially for patients with anatomy that does not forgive over-spread.
Dysport tends to diffuse — spread outward from the injection point — slightly more than its competitors. That makes it well-suited for broad, flat targets like the forehead, where you want even softening across a wide area with fewer total injection points. The flip side is that for delicate, focal targets (crow’s feet next to the lateral brow, lip flips, bunny lines), an injector has to thoughtfully reduce dose volume and injection depth to keep Dysport from drifting where it should not.
Daxxify diffuses tightly, similar to Botox. The active molecule is the bare 150 kDa toxin, which behaves predictably and stays close to where it is placed. That makes Daxxify a comfortable choice for fine-detail work and for patients who have previously felt that another product “spread more than expected.”
A skilled injector can use either product anywhere on the upper face, but matching the right diffusion profile to the right anatomy is one of the things your provider should be thinking about in your consultation.
Cost: What You Will Actually Pay in 2026
This is where the value math gets interesting.
- Dysport: roughly $4–$7 per unit. A standard glabellar treatment of 50 units lands around $250–$350.
- Daxxify: roughly $14–$20 per unit. A standard glabellar treatment of 40 units lands around $560–$800.
Per visit, Daxxify costs roughly twice as much as Dysport. Per month of effect, the math tightens considerably: if Dysport runs $300 and lasts 3.5 months, that is roughly $86 per month of treatment. If Daxxify runs $680 and lasts 6 months, that is roughly $113 per month. Daxxify is a bit more expensive on a per-month basis, but it is closer than the headline sticker price suggests.
The non-financial cost matters too. Two visits a year instead of three to four is real time and real scheduling. For patients who have to take time off work or travel into the clinic, the longer interval is a feature, not just a number.
Side Effects and Safety
Both products carry essentially identical short-term side effect profiles, because the mechanism of action is identical. In FDA-controlled trials, the most common adverse events for both were:
- Headache (3–11%)
- Injection-site reactions — bruising, redness, mild swelling (1–5%)
- Eyelid drooping (ptosis), typically less than 1% in trained hands
- Asymmetric brow position, usually correctable with a small touch-up at the two-week mark
Both products carry the FDA boxed warning regarding the theoretical possibility of distant toxin spread; at cosmetic facial doses, this has not been a clinically meaningful concern across millions of treatments.
A small distinction worth knowing: Daxxify is formulated without human serum albumin, using the RTP-004 peptide instead. Patients who specifically want to avoid albumin-containing products for religious, vegan, or other personal reasons sometimes choose Daxxify for that reason alone. Dysport does contain human serum albumin and lactose.
Who Is the Ideal Candidate for Each?
Dysport may be the better fit if:
- You need visible softening as quickly as possible — a wedding or event in 7–10 days
- You are treating broad areas like the forehead
- You prefer a lower per-visit cost and are fine with a 3–4 month cadence
- You have had Dysport before and liked the response
Daxxify may be the better fit if:
- You want to maximize the interval between treatments — two visits a year, not three or four
- You travel frequently or have a packed schedule and dislike the “wearing off” middle window
- You want a tightly diffusing toxin for precise areas of the face
- You prefer an albumin-free formulation
Can You Switch Between Dysport and Daxxify?
Yes. Many patients try one and switch to the other to see which fits their lifestyle better. A few practical notes:
- Tell your injector exactly what you had last, the dose, and roughly when. The unit systems are not interchangeable, so this guides their conversion.
- You cannot stack the two in the same treatment area in the same session.
- The transition is seamless — no wash-out period is required, because both products work on the same neurotransmitter pathway.
- If you are switching from Dysport (broader diffusion) to Daxxify (tighter), expect injection-point placement to shift slightly; your injector may use more or differently distributed sites to achieve the same effect.

Dysport vs. Daxxify FAQ
Median duration in the SAKURA phase-3 trials was approximately six months at full effect, with a subset of patients still showing meaningful response at nine months. Real-world results vary, but six months is a realistic expectation for most properly dosed patients.
Speed and per-visit cost. Dysport typically shows results within 2–3 days, faster than Daxxify’s 1–4 day window for most patients. A single Dysport treatment also costs roughly half what a Daxxify treatment costs at most clinics.
No. They are different molecules with different formulations. Dysport’s diffusion is broader; Daxxify diffuses tightly like Botox. Daxxify uses an albumin-free peptide stabilizer; Dysport contains human serum albumin and lactose.
Both work well. Dysport’s broader diffusion can mean fewer injection points across a wide forehead. Daxxify’s tighter spread can mean more controlled placement, which some patients prefer if they have a low brow or are sensitive to forehead heaviness.
You should wait until your previous Dysport treatment has fully worn off, or close to it, before starting Daxxify. Otherwise the dose calculation becomes guesswork. Most injectors recommend waiting at least 3 months from your last Dysport treatment.
Comfort during injection is essentially identical. The needle gauge, injector technique, and use of topical numbing matter far more than the product itself.
Neither product is recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Both should be deferred until after pregnancy and lactation are complete.
