Glutathione · IV vs. Injection vs. At-Home Kit

Glutathione: IV, Injection, or At-Home Kit — Which Form Is Right for You?

The Basics

What Is Glutathione?

Glutathione is a tripeptide — built from cysteine, glutamine, and glycine — and the body's primary antioxidant. It's produced mainly in the liver, where it neutralizes free radicals, supports phase II detoxification, and regenerates other antioxidants like vitamins C and E.

Levels fall with age, chronic stress, illness, and high oxidative load. As glutathione drops, many people notice more fatigue, duller skin, slower recovery, and a heavier sense of "running on empty." Because oral glutathione absorbs poorly, injectable and IV forms are the reliable way to raise blood levels.

In short: glutathione is the molecule that keeps your antioxidant defenses running. When levels drop, oxidative stress, fatigue, dull skin, and slower recovery often follow.

Benefits

What Does Glutathione Do?

Evidence-based effects, framed honestly. Glutathione supports several systems — it isn't a treatment for any specific disease.

🛡️

Antioxidant defense

Neutralizes reactive oxygen species that drive oxidative stress and cellular wear.

🫧

Liver detoxification

Central to phase II conjugation — how the liver processes and clears toxins.

✨

Skin clarity & tone

Inhibits tyrosinase, which can reduce hyperpigmentation and even out tone.

🦠

Immune support

Supports lymphocyte function, especially under chronic stress or illness.

⚡

Recovery support

Used post-exercise, post-illness, and post-anesthesia to support recovery.

What glutathione does not do: it is not a cure for any disease and is not FDA-approved as a therapy for cosmetic skin lightening. We frame the cosmetic effect as clearer, more even tone — not bleaching.

Is It For You?

Who Should Consider Glutathione?

✓

Chronic fatigue or a sense of low-grade inflammation

Dull or uneven skin tone

✓

Heavy oxidative load — frequent travelers, athletes, those in smoking cessation

✓

Recovery after illness or anesthesia

✓

Routine wellness maintenance

Safety

Safety, Side Effects, and Who Shouldn't

Generally well-tolerated

The most common side effect is mild injection-site soreness. Glutathione is a sulfur-based compound, so patients with sulfa sensitivity should disclose it. Data in pregnancy and lactation is limited, so it's generally avoided unless your clinician advises otherwise. Rare bronchospasm has been reported in patients with active asthma — discuss with your provider. We screen for allergies and contraindications at intake.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions About Glutathione

Is glutathione IV better than injection?

Not better — different. IV delivers a larger dose with faster onset (within hours). Injection is a smaller dose with slower onset (about 24 hours) but takes 15 minutes instead of 45. Most patients on a long-term routine use injections or kits; IV is best for periodic deeper sessions or protocols where same-day effect matters.

Can I do glutathione at home?

Yes — Naya offers at-home glutathione injection kits, dispensed in person at our Chatsworth clinic only. Kits are not sold online and do not ship. A consult is required before pickup.

How long until I see results from glutathione?

For energy and recovery effects, often within 24 to 72 hours of the first dose. For skin clarity and tone effects, expect 4 to 8 weeks of consistent dosing.

How often should I get glutathione?

For most maintenance protocols, every 1 to 2 weeks. Your Naya provider will recommend a frequency based on your goals and baseline labs.

Does glutathione lighten skin?

Glutathione can reduce hyperpigmentation by inhibiting tyrosinase, the enzyme that drives melanin production, which results in more even tone. Naya does not market glutathione as a skin-bleaching product and the FDA has not approved it for that use. Most patients describe the cosmetic effect as clearer and more even rather than lighter.

Are oral glutathione supplements as effective as injections?

Oral glutathione has poor bioavailability — most is broken down in the digestive tract before absorption. Liposomal oral forms are better but still lower-yield than IM or IV delivery. For meaningful blood-level changes, injectable forms are the standard.

Where can I get glutathione in Chatsworth or Santa Barbara?

IV form is available at Chatsworth only (our Santa Barbara clinic does not offer IV therapy). Injection form is available at both Naya clinics. At-home kits are pickup at Chatsworth only.
